Mike McKendrick, Class of ’76, Firefighter

Mike McKendrickMike was a 1976 graduate of Sahuaro where he had the honor of giving the Invocation at Graduation. He went on to college on a wrestling scholarship, graduating from Cogswell College in Sunnyvale, California.

He began his career as a Tucson Firefighter in 1980. Mike is currently an Assistant Chief responsible for the Operations Division, which includes 650 personnel. He is also Board Chairman of the Tucson Fire Foundation. Mike also sits on the Board of Directors for the Strauss Manor, a senior housing complex.

He served as Head Wrestling Coach at Sabino High School where one year he was named as the Outstanding Wrestling Coach in Southern Arizona. Mike was also an assistant to Howard Breinig, coaching Sabino’s Junior Varsity Football Team.

Mike and his wife, Dolora, have one son, Tyler, and one grandson, Landon.
