Jack Lehmkuhl, Teacher, Coach, Administrator

Jack Lehmkuhl got his college education from three different institutions: his B.A. from Aquinas College in 1996 majoring in mathematics, with a minor in physical education; his Masters was from the U of A in 1970 also in mathematics; and in 1999 he received his Administrative Certificate from NAU in educational leadership.

He started his teaching career at Sacred Heart in Grand Rapids Michigan and was there from 1966 to 1970. He was hired at Sahuaro in 1970 and worked there until 1999, where he served as JV football coach until 1976; he became JV baseball coach in 1976 and served until 1990. From 1989 until 1999 he served as department chairman for Mathematics, Physical Education, Modern Language, and Vocational Education. From 1996 to 1999 Jack was asked to serve as a teacher on Special Assignment, taking on various Administrative duties. During the time from 1992 through 1996 Jack served as the director of Summer School for Sahuaro and from 1997 through 1999 he served as Assistant Summer School Director for TUSD. In 1999 Jack moved on to become Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction at Catalina High School. Jack retired from TUSD in 2003 only to take on new responsibilities as Interim Assistant Principal at Sahuarita High School.

Jack has been married to Diane for 33 years and they have two daughters – Holly, who is a teacher; and Heidi, who works for American Airlines. ‘ In her nomination of Jack, Jan Boyd states, ”Jack lives and breathes Sahuaro. He does everyhing for everyone. He’s a wonderful administrator, teacher, mentor, and friend. He knows more about Sahuaro than anyone else on campus.”
