Chuck Stopani, Class of 1985, Coach and Businessman

As a student at Sahuaro High School, Chuck Stopani was the definition of a well-rounded Cougar. He lettered in four sports—football, soccer, track, and gymnastics—while also serving as student body treasurer and participating in the DECA program. His leadership, athleticism, and dedication were evident even then, laying the foundation for a life of achievement and service.

After graduation, Chuck attended Northern Arizona University, where he studied business. In 1993, he opened Stopani’s Italian-American Restaurant, followed by Daglio’s Cheesesteaks and Hoagies in 2004. His success as a restaurateur was matched by his commitment to the broader community. He served on the boards of the Arizona Restaurant Association, the OTT YMCA, and the Pima County Board of Health, all while running his businesses.

Chuck also poured his energy into coaching. He began with JV football at Santa Rita High School before returning to Sahuaro as an assistant varsity football coach from 1994–95 and again from 2007–2014. In the years between, he coached in the Vail School District, leading JV soccer, football, and varsity girls golf. His passion for mentoring young athletes continued long after he closed his restaurants, when he pursued golf full-time.

Chuck went on to coach at Cienega High School and at Pima Community College for both the men’s and women’s golf teams. He earned his Professional Golf status, becoming Head Golf Professional at Dorado Country Club in Tucson. Through Dorado, Chuck has been a steadfast supporter of Sahuaro, donating foursomes, prizes, and lessons to the Sahuaro Golf Outing each year.

Beyond his professional work, Chuck has dedicated himself to philanthropy. He has worked with The First Tee of Tucson and Birdies for Good, raising funds for the Ronald McDonald House, PGA Hope Foundation, and the Southwest PGA Foundation. He has also served on the Board for Coaches for Charity, a nonprofit devoted to supporting high school students and athletic programs in Tucson. In 2024, he was honored as PGA Associate of the Year.

Chuck’s service extends to his country as well—he was named Honorary Commander of the 305th Component Maintenance Squadron at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. He also served six years on the Sahuaro Cougar Foundation Board, further strengthening his ties to his alma mater.

Chuck and his wife, Brenda, are proud parents of two children, Jillian and Santino. His legacy is one of athletic excellence, entrepreneurial spirit, community service, and lifelong dedication to Sahuaro High School.
