Gary is a Sahuaro graduate class of 1981. Gary was an outstanding student as well as a superior cross country and track competitor. He led the boys cross country team to 2nd place in the 1979 State Meet. Gary still holds the Sahuaro record for the 1500 and 3000 meters in track. Gary finished 2nd in the 3000 meter race in State in 1981. Gary continued his running career at UNLV where he earned his degree in finance. He continues to run and inspire many others as well.
Over the years he has been instrumental in helping with the Annual Old Timers Meet held every year for Alumni cross country runners. Gary is currently the senior finance and accounting executive for Next Era Energy Resources in Houston. In 2020 Gary was diagnosed with several brain tumors. He has survived many treatments and surgeries. In 2022 Gary ran in San Antonio in the Rock n Roll SK while working full time. Gary loves spending time with his wife, Tommie, and his son, Scott.
