Dr. Edwin Torrejon, Class of 1973

Ed attended Sahuaro from 1969 – 1973 where he was an outstanding wrestler and student. He was undefeated in wrestling 3 of his 4 years, winning 96% of all his high school matches.

Ed attended Eastern Illinois University on a wrestling scholarship where he was a 2-time All American and an NCAA champion.

Ed’s wrestling accomplishments helped him to earn a scholarship to the University of Arizona where he wrestled in the first wrestling match held in McKale Center.

Ed earned his Masters and Doctorate Degrees from the University of Arizona. Dr. Torrejon was the principal of Homer Davis elementary school until he retired in 1992.

After his retirement Ed became the director of the 6th Street Gym here in Tucson, which along with the nonprofit Foundation Youth Ministries focuses on at-risk youth and other members of the community who need the assistance of a support system.

Ed is always looking for ways to help the youth of Tucson. Ed currently resides in Tucson.
