Pamela Penn, Class of 1979, Educator

Pam Penn graduated from Sahuaro in 1979. Pam competed in track and field while attending Sahuaro and excelled in each event she competed. Pam was a team leader, who set high standards for herself and her teammates. Her strengths were the sprints and long jump.

After graduating Sahuaro, Pam went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Arizona and then her Master’s Degree at California State University Long Beach. Pam used her passion for education as she went into the teaching field. Teaching elementary through middle school is a difficult task for most people, but Pam has embraced it for over 35 years. She has earned many awards during her tenure including California State Assembly Extraordinary Teacher Award, Patrick O’Donnell PTA Site Teacher of the Year, and Marshall Academy of the Arts Kinesiology Sub-Discipline Award . Pam has taught middle school physical education and adaptive physical education to middle and high school age students.

Pam wears many hats. Besides teaching full time she is a mentor teacher and runs a pre-teacher program for students at California State University Long Beach. She presents at many workshops and conferences. Pam is also an adjunct lecturer in the College of Education and Kinesiology at California State University Long Beach.

According to her friend Kim Cook “Pam has a desire to immerse herself in educational opportunities where she demonstrates her passion for lifelong learning”. Pam’s students were lucky to have her and the Cougar Foundation is happy to welcome her to the Hall of Fame class of 2024.
